in all my tests I've used r.stream.order with an accumulation map and the
results seemed to be ok.

yes, please test with an accumulation map and report the results. the
region should be large enough to cover all accumulation.
maybe accumulation map should be marked as required for calculation for
the r.stream.*.
any helpful additions for the manual are welcome!
