r.surf.sor

Has anyone used the interpolator r.surf.sor with any success ? Initial
investigations indicate that it works well for interpolating contour type
data. My question is this, I understand that this iterative algorithm is
based on Simultaneous Over Relaxation (hence the .sor), but what exactly is
this? Is there any documentation for this function yet, or perhaps a reference
source for more information ?
