| We are using a Tek 4697 (97 not 96) and are quite pleased
| it is a much better painter than the 4696 with 222 DPI
| and is much faster as well. For the price, ca 1200-1500,
| it is a great deal as well. For higher quality, but
| more substantial cost there are the Shinko etc...
| I suspect some else should comment there....>

What is a Tek 4697? I assume it's a color printer of some sort (I
can't imagine printing from a system like GRASS without one). And
was that price $1200? Are we talking ink jet technology? If so, we
weren't happy with ink jet output from either Cannon or HP. How does
the Tek 4697 compare with them?

The apparent poor quality of ink jet has caused us to consider
thermal wax instead. We are planning the purchase of a Tek Phaser II
color printer. It is a termal wax printer. It will cost between
$8,000 and $10,000 depending on options (including network
interface). It is a Postscript Level II printer. It is designed to
take spooled output from lpr in any Unix environment (we have Suns
and Nexts). What is the GRASS path to this printer?

Any comments?
