importing TIFF files

If the hardware being used is Sun -you can display the tiff
file with any other software that will display that format,
then do a "screendump > filename".  This creates a sunraster
file format in the current directory.  You can then use the
GRASS command "r.in.sunrast" to convert this to a GRASS 
raster file.  When displaying this file in GRASS, set "region=
rasterfilename" then "d.erase" or you will only get a very
disappointing white screen.  You may then want to zoom in on 
the desired part of the display and do a r.resample to get rid
of the extraneous part of the display.
