s.menu problem on RS6000

As we continue to have fun getting grass to run on the RS6000 in
our library, we ran into an unusual problem with the s.menu
command. 

We have installed GRASS on an RS6000 model 340 with 128mb of ram
600 mb of swap space and the /tmp have about 130mb open.  We are
running AIX 3.2

After reading in a site file and asking to run a site occurrence
report, the sites do not show up in the report as being in the
categories we know them to be.  

The following is the report from a map created called layers,
which is jus an elevation map rescaled to 10 categories

This same site list was run using grass4.0 on a sunsparcs 1
workstation without problem.

Why would there be no sites showing up in the different elevation
zones?
