Beginners' Problems

The ftp server on moon.cecer.army.mil has a directory called doc/.
Under doc/ is the subdirectory 4.0.tutorials/ which contains:
    a list of currently running programs associated with GRASS 4.0 (curprog4.0)
    tutorials about
	r. combine (combine)
	Image Processing (imagery)
	DTED & DEM Elevation Data Extraction (elev)
	v. digit (digit)
	r. infer (infer)
	r.mapcalc (mapcalc)
	TIGER (tiger)
	DLG-3 Data Extraction (dlg)
doc/ also holds:
   the 4.0 Reference Manual (manpages/)
   a draft of GRASS 4.0--Intro to GISs Using GRASS, contributed by John E. Parks	*but not completely updated to 4.0 (tutorial-parks)
