d.rgb and i.composite

Hi, Can anyone tell me the difference between the output maps produced by
d.rgb and i.composite? When I run these two programs on the same input
layers, the output layers  are very different in appearance. The sizes of the
resulting cell files are also different, with the d.rgb output about twice
as large as the i.composite output. Thanks in advance for the information.
