To get the length of vectors you can use the command v.report, it is a contributed program from either the SCS or NPS (I think). This program is only available for grass 4.0. I'm not sure why it is not included with the Grass4.1 release. By the way, your vectors must be labeled for v.report to recognize them. Good Luck Teresa
