Position Available: National Climatic Data Center (USA)

A contractor for the National Climatic Data Center of the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), is
seeking applicants for a research assistant position. The
position involves development and application of techniques for
(1) analysis of precipitation data using a Geographic Information
System (GIS); and (2) analysis with image processing software of
satellite and in situ data related to an urban heat island
project. Potential applicants should have experience in one or
both of the following (1) using GIS or image processing software;
(2) climatological and satellite-derived data analyses.

The selected individual will be responsible for data transfer
(input/output) to computer workstations from various storage
media; data analyses using GIS, image processing, and statistical
analysis software; and data presentation through production of
images, figures, and tables. The individual will also be expected
to prepare draft copies of the results of analyses.

Candidates for this position should minimally have (1)
a Bachelors Degree in Meteorology, Climatology, Geography or a
related area with experience in the use of satellite image
processing and GIS software, and statistical analysis software;
or (2) a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and experience with
the analysis of geophysical data. A Masters Degree in one of the
above areas is preferable.

The position is available after 1 January 1994 at the National
Climatic Data Center in Asheville, NC, and is initially for
