I have been doing a bit of work with d.labels as well, and was getting the same error. I ended up limiting the total number of labels I put in any one file. I seem to recall it was on the count of <100. This has not solved the total problem, but it did allow me to label my maps. Hope this works for you. Chris D Garvin--Ft Sill,OK
