For those of you who have been on extended holiday or school break, you
might have missed a posting that described the availability of complete
archives of the GRASSuser's & GRASSprogramer's mail lists. (from start
to 12-92).
They are great sources to query to get answers to FAQ or problems already
solved. Use them _after_ reading the _manual_ and _before_ posting to
the lists.
The work was been done by me and placed on the moon at /grass/incoming.
(available thru anonymous ftp on moon.cecer.army.mil).
The files grassp-mail and grassu-mail are ASCII text
files of the entire programmers and users lists from the inception until
December 31., with most of the header material edited out.
The grassu-mail file is 2.2meg, the grassp-mail file < 1meg.
I've gotten a lot of great advice through the lists, and hope that
these files will help newer subscribers answer some questions that seem to
pop up frequently.
A simple script file using "grep -i -n" can search the file for a
command/function of interest, returning the line # and text where the
command/function is found. You can then use "more" or "vi -R" to access the
file and see what has already been asked and/or answered. I hope some of
you find this helpful.
