The 4.1beta release requires a FORTRAN compiler only for the following
items, none of which are built automatically (i.e. they're not among the
"main" or "alpha" sets of programs):
- ISMgrd2cell and ISMcell2grd;
- m.eigensystem;
- RIM and the grass.rim interface programs;
- grass.hdf; and
- a couple of mapgen test programs.
