null data in GRASS!

Hear -- hear --

its finally nice to hear a call to arms on this issue,
especially all those times I didn't want to know
how much 0 data I had when printing out reports or
trying to calculate area measures...

being a non-programmer, however....

exactly what kind of a programming effort would
this entail to make this conversion / retrofit
to GRASS ???
