Last week, I wrote:
|In the final 4.1 release, there will be a G_strdup() function (in the gis
|library) that is used by all GRASS programs requiring a strdup()-like
|library routine.
|If anybody has a more urgent need to build stuff that depends on strdup()
|or strstr() , I can make updated versions of the strings.c and gisdefs.h
|files available on the FTP site.

These files are now available on the FTP site, moon.cecer.army.mil:
	/grass/grass4.1beta/release/updates/src/include/gisdefs.h
	/grass/grass4.1beta/release/updates/src/libes/gis/strings.c

These are direct replacements for the respective files in the GRASS 4.1beta
distribution.
