Yes, it CAN be so stupid!!   If you want to output a vector map with different
colors for differently attributed vectors, you have to create a separate 
vector map for each attributed vector!  As for "automatic" labeling of
either attribute # or category (hee hee), what do you think this is,
ARC/INFO?? :-)

Another thing GRASS lacks: How about a d.sites option where the site number
shows up centered on the site, rather than an "x" and an off-centered
label?
