HELP!

This is not for GRASS.
But lots of people are on the list, and I hope to
find some gentle soul that maybe can help me.

On an HP series 400 machine, we had an improper shutdown. The machine
was rebooted, and re-started working, but after about a week it halted.
I tried to run fsck (prompted by the machine), and it gets stuck with
the error:

CANNOT READ BLOCK nnnnn

Is there anything I can do to get over this without having to call HP 
assistance ?
Is there a mailing list or a HP-users group to which I can address myself ?
