There's been a lot of talk about LTPlus on Linux lately. Since Linux is not
supported and can be difficult to run, I thought you might want to know that
the original developer of LTPlus now sells a commercial version called LT4X.
It has tons of new features and enhancements including new snapping tools,
vector moving capability, 256 colors, and faster running times. A full
description is below, free demos are available. It's price is cheap compared
to other products of it's kind and it is fully supported with a phone-in
helpline.

LT4X: A New Approach To Data Conversion
The IDI GIS Software Products Group released two major software packages during
the last quarter of 1993. LT4X is a UNIX-based productivity enhancement tool
designed specifically for capturing, editing, attributing, analyzing and
maintaining Geographic Information System (GIS) data. Without exception, the
greatest portion (often 60-75%) of the cost of a GIS project can be attributed
to the collection and conversion of raw analog information to a digital format
compatible with GIS analysis software. LT4X was specifically designed to meet
this need and to do so in the most efficient way possible. It features complete
arc-node topology; a graphical user interface under XWindows; on-line help,
customizable menus; a powerful macro language; multiple vector levels, plotting
and reporting output, template and vector editing operations to fully resolve
vertical integration; and input/output compatibility with every major GIS
software package on the market today. By providing a 300-500% productivity gain
over traditional data conversion methods, LT4X is the perfect companion for any
GIS application. To date, the majority of LT4X users are in the United States
at the Federal agencies responsible for managing much of the nation's natural
resources (USDA-Forest Service and USDI-Bureau of Land Management). The program
has also found a home with the U.S. Geological Survey where it is used
primarily for the production of Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data. LT4X can
also be credited with providing the IDI GIS Data Conversion Group with a
significant edge over competitors by allowing that Project to produce high
quality digital products at a very low per map cost.

The LT4X application is supported on a variety of PC and Work Station
platforms, including a 386 or better PC (SCO Xenix, UNIX and Open DeskTop), IBM
RISC6000 (AIX), Data General Aviion (DG-UX), Sun SPARCstation (SunOS/Solaris),
and SGI Iris Indigo (IRIX). The package includes a comprehensive, three-volume
set of user documentation and 30 days of free telephone HelpLine assistance.
The LT4X product is fully supported with a year-round schedule of introductory
and advanced classes, conducted at the IDI-GIS Training Center in Portland.
Customized on-site training and technical consultation is also available.
Customers may also purchase an annually renewable Technical Support License
that offers unlimited telephone assistance, free interim software updates, a
free subscription to the X-Pressions newsletter, and discounts on training and
major LT4X upgrade releases.
