Hi Kym:

     The 4.1 version of the s.surf.tps program writes a (huge) scrambled up
temporary file under .tmp in your mapset while it is printing the percent
completed.  Then, unfortunately, it tries to G_calloc up a lot of memory to
unscramble the completed splined raster.  This is unfortunate because you
never know until its too late (and you've already splined the whole
surface) that your machine doesn't have enough memory to unscramble the
temp file.

     irina at zorro.cecer.army.mil has a newer version that will let you know
up front if you are biting off more than you can chew.  Or you can just
spline a smaller area with the old 4.1 release version.
