i.tape.spot for SPOT Panchromatic images

We have had no luck in importing spot pan scenes using i.tape.spot
in GRASS 4.1.  
  Is there something in the update packages that fixes this?

 We can get past reading the header file OK. But, i.tape.spot only sees
row 1 and then bails out.  The resulting cell file is filled with zeros.
