Problems with Black and White Terminal

We have a black and white terminal which is planned to be dedicated
for GRASS digitizing on a HP 9000 750 series. When we start up the
d.mon on it we get the message XAllocColor errors. And eventually we
cannot startup the monitor. Please help ?? Can we setup any environment variableso that it will work on the B&W.
