DBMS in Grass 5.0

I saw some mention of new DBMS stuff mooted for Grass 5.0. That reminded me
to make a plea not to leave those of us who use Rim and the Grass/Rim
interface out in the cold when a better database interface and system is
developed.

I for one have a lot of data in Rim - and it took a lot of effort to get it
in there. If Grass is to be updated in the database area please make it
possible or even easy for us to transfer large databases out of Rim and into
something better. Or at least continue to support Rim in any new system.

Perhaps if and when the Grass/Postgres interface is up and going someone who
knows could include some guidance or even a simple procedure for exporting
data from Rim and importing into Postgres.

Rim has been a great friend to me. But, just recently I imported the USGS
place names data into Rim. Works just fine. But do not ask s.db.rim to write
out a site file of elevation data for instance. THIS TOOK NEARLY 5 DAYS. It
appears to write to 8192 K buffers before writing to disk. But hey it is
SLOW - at least if you have a 31000 record file to write. Luckily I'm
usually writing 0-400 record files!!

Cheers
