Monitors, Solaris 2.3 & Sparc Station 5

I am currently running the Solaris 2.3 binaries on a Sun Sparc 5 and have
encountered a further monitor problem.  I am unable to 'stretch' an open
monitor by pulling at its corner in the usual manner.  Instead, the monitor
blanks and goes into the widely discussed 'unstoppable' mode similar to that
occurring if one exits GRASS without cancelling all open monitors.

Has anyone alse encountered this difficulty & successfully found a solution?
