D.3d parameters

I'm producing a series of 3d views of a DEM and have encountered a bug in
d.3d: it will not display any areas SOUTH of the `eye position', ie as
long as the eye is looking north or east nothing is wrong, but a view due
west will display only the northern half of the DEM, the southern half
remaining in the background color. Is there anything I can do to fix this, 
or should I avoid aiming the eye to the west?
