.gislock problem

I recently loaded the linux 4.1 version of grass.  When I try to start it
(by entering "grass4.1") I receive the following:

/usr/grass/etc/lock: can't load dynamic linker '/lib/ld.so'
Unable to properly access /home/rob/.gislock
Please notify system personel

can anyone give me a hand?

Also, is there a FAQ file that may address my problem and likely other
problems that I'll have in the future?
