HELP!!

(My apologies to those of you who have received this already, but I'm
re-sending it because there was evidently a problem with the mailing
list recently-- I know that most of you did not get it the first time.
Furthermore, due to the nature of the problem, I've cross-posted to
grassp.)

I am having a problem with v.support [build], or more specifically,
with $GISBASE/etc/v.build, which builds vector topologies. I'm running
GRASS 4.1.5 on a Sun SPARC 20 under Solaris 2.4. The programs compiled
just fine, but v.build produces a segmentation fault and a core dump
EVERY time. It works just fine on my old (slow) Sun 4/280 under SunOS
4.1, so I suspect a problem with the "port" to Solaris. PLEASE contact
me if you have a working v.build (or v.support [build]) under Solaris
2.4 so I can figure out how to get mine working. To find out, try

$GISBASE/etc/v.build map=any_vector_map

or

v.support map=any_vector_map option=build

I've traced the problem, through several layers of function calls deep
within the convoluted vector library, to a call to
Vect_x_read_head_binary (Map, dhead) in
$GISBASE/src/mapdev/Vlib/x_rw_binary.c, which appears to be part of a
series of unsupported library routines. I won't have time to pursue it
further for several days, so I've decided to appeal for help.
Unfortunately, I need v.build up and running on this machine rather
badly.

I was surprised to see unsupported libraries comprising part of the
main GRASS module-- these particular libraries have been in use for at
least a full release cycle (sometime in version 3.x), yet remain
"unsupported". On a related note, can someone give me Dave Gerdes
email address? Dave is the author of those routines and can perhaps be
of help.

Thanks in advance....
