Hello Philip,

That's a wonderfull idea of reassigning the classes as the weights!
I've read the user manual and know the command r.reclass; but I didn't think
of using it that way...
So I can use r.reclass with a data file telling it how to assign
weights. Then I can do a r.stats to a file and have the weights and
their corresponding # of cells. After that I can have my script do the
multiplication and additions to get my utility. =)
Sounds good as long as r.reclass doesn't mind being told to
change a category that doesn't exist... ie category say 42 has no cells
thus it never is created for the map, but my data file of weights has
category 42. I'll play with it and see. =)
Out of curiousity if you don't mind me asking, what do you do for the
Regionall Archeologisch Archiverings Projekt? Sounds like it must be
interesting if it mixes archeology with grass!
And yes the sunshine is quite nice today... =)

Wishing you well in the Netherlands,

                        Christopher M Klaus
