two line legend text

I would like to have two lines of text for one
vect using legend in p.map.new, such as
    _____  Walkover Survey Area
           (400' Right-of way)

On a whim, I tried putting \n on my description line
in my script, as in the text command.  Well it "worked"
sort of.  I got 2 lines, but the name of the next
vector file in the legend was superimposed upon
the second line, as in:

      ______  Walkover Survey Area
              (400' Right-of roads.major)
      - - - - Major Roads

Has anyone done anything like this?  Any other suggestions
for a two line text?
