Dear GRASS users,

the first results of testing the GRASS/XGRASS CD for LINUX are
        available.

                - GRASS is running from CD
                - You'll need as a minimum requirement a double-speed
                  CD-ROM
                - You'll need more than 8Mb RAM to improve the performance,
because the binaries are statically linked, esp. the
XGRASS binaries are larger than 1Mb (up to 3Mb). If
You have only 8Mb or less, the system will swap heavyly.
                - to run GRASS in a convenient way, You should have
a 486DX 33 or above, esp. if You'll use interpolation
                  routines as s.surf.tps, s.surf.2d, r.contour etc.
                - XGRASS will run independent of the version of the
                  X-system.
                - You'll need approx 40Mb of disk-space to install the
the runtime-code. I'm trying to reduce the size to
                  less than 20Mb.

You'll be able to install GRASS on hard-disk, too, but You'll
                need approx 200Mb free disk-space.

Greetings

        Andreas Holz
