v.digit and Solaris 2.4

Hi folks...

There seem to be a number of opinions on Sol2.4 and v.digit.
e.g.

So, can anyone elaborate? Any ideas on what conditions must be met in
order to make v.digit go under s2.4?

I've got a Kurta XGT, and it works with arc/info, so I know the comms
is OK. In v.digit all I get is 'digitizer read error'.
