If you're not using the GISGEN program to compile GRASS, I'd strongly recommend 
that you do so.  That way the libraries that you need will be compiled first.

If you are, then look at the file $GISBASE/src/CMD/lists/GRASS to make sure that
the src/libes/* lines are not commented out (i.e., they should not have a # in 
the first column).
