Gray scale

Hi, Simon In order to display 256 gray shades you need to be running your
grass monitor in "float" colormode (d.colormode float; d.erase).
Unfortunately, the XDRIVER_24bit doesn't support this. You'll need to set
your computer display to 8-bit and run the regular 8-bit XDRIVER.

So, how's about it, folks? What GRASS desperately needs is a proper
24-bit display. My $.02.
