Grass on MkLinux & Import Question

I now have Cutgrass4.2 fully working on my MkLinux DR3, at least from the
root account.  Very nice!  Still can't load the tutorial data from a user
account, so some permissions must be messed up.  Looking forward to trying
version 5.

Is there an easy way to load publically available ARC/INFO files into
GRASS? For example, my State's road data is in a set of .dbf,shp,shx,and
e00 files, which I think are all ARC/INFO types.  Many thanks for any help!
