Linux --- PATH not set

Alan,

Are you activating grass using the script grass4.2 that is normally
installed in /usr/local/bin or are you using some other means?  It
sounds like you might be bypassing that script.

For what it is worth, I am using tcsh on Linux Red Hat V5.1, and my
grass4.2 script contains an assignment to GISBASE environment variable
and then just exec's GIS.sh
