error while compiling mapgen

I have downloaded the grass 4.2.1. and the mapgen source code from the
web pages of the Uni-Hannover. After compiling grass with only a few
errors :-) I have tried to compile the sources of mapgen. This failed
with the following error message (and a few others before which I have
already fixed). I use SUSE-LINUX 6.1 with gcc 2.7.2.3

Do you know anything about this?  Any ideas?
