compilation tips please:

Hello I am trying to compile grass and am running into some errors. 
When I run ./Compile.sh it freezes or seems to do nothing after creating
the dev/fifo* files. I suspect that the generic/GISGEN.sh file is
looking to see what state the compilation is at in the Next_Step
directory.  If I am running linux and am compiling for the first time
what line should the linux file in that directory contain?
