CELL driver problems.

Good morning, 

I've run into some weird problems when using the CELL driver:

1) I have to wait about 10-30 seconds after doing a d.mon stop=CELL before
   the raster D_cell appears. 

2) I get lots of black horizontal lines across the images. 

Is there a way around this, or a better way of making maps?
Should I use ps.map, and then convert the maps to jpgs?
