[GRASSLIST:2246] Questions about regions

  I have a location named 'nevada' in which the DEFAULT_WIND, WIND,
PROJ_INFO and PROJ_UNITS files are in a directory (mapset) called
PERMANENT/. The bounds of the window and default window are the bounds of
the state. My project area is a small region within this location, and
that's in the mapset coeur/, with its own WIND value.

  I've imported DEMs using r.in.gdal. But, the three I've imported today
using the syntax:
r.in.gdal -o input=<sourcename> output=<newname>

show up (after cleaning with sed) as little rectangles in a large, white
rectangle.

  I want to concatenate these (eventually, all 9 DEMs), but they all have
the same region: the large, white background.

  My questions are: 1) what did I do wrong during importing so that only the
region covered by the DEM shows up (and I can view them all simultaneouly),
2) how can I determine the bounds just of the fraction that I want from each
map, and 3) how do I fix this and learn not to do it again?

Thanks,

Rich
