which version do you plan to install?

GRASS 5 from CVS should compile out of the box on IRIX 6.5. Look into
the REQUIREMENTS file, you can get the needed libraries mostly from
freeware.sgi.com (needs root permissions on the machine to install). Do
you have a license for the MIPS PRO compiler of SGI?

If you can not compile yourself, you could install a binary, but
currently there is none on the server. 

One thing to remember: If you are on a IRIX64 machine and compile in
native 64bit mode, your vector files will not be portable. If you need
more information, please ask more specific questions, i'll dig out more
then.
