[GRASSLIST:2655] naive CVS question

Recently, I was also trying to download Bill Baker's r.le suite for
compilation in GRASS5.0 and Linux.   I knew that I had to look at the CVS,
but it's not clear to me how it works.  Do I have to download the whole
GRASS5.0 snapshot?  I was hesitant to explore deeper because I didn't want
to start a long download via modem before I knew what I was getting myself
into.  Thanks,
