Still, it'd be hard to represent the layer info without some digesting.
I believe in the way back machine, NRCS (SCS) stored the database with
INFORMIX. The SSURGO and STATSGO databases are both very well
documented, provided you know a little something about USDA Soil
Taxonomy (coarse-loamy, mixed, mesic Dystric Xerochrept -- now that's a
mouthful!).
