James,

This happened to me when I first was using Grass and I saved the told 
tcltkgrass to 'save config'.

I fixed the problem by getting rid of the .tcltkgrass file in my home 
directory. (Actually, I just renamed it, in case deleting it was a 
mistake.) I haven't saved the config since then, and the tcltkgrass 
interface has run fine since (and it hasn't written any new .tcltkgrass 
file).
