I have had some great luck with this actually using a shell script.  I
ran into a problem where I wanted to import 100+ ascii text files (xyz),
convert them to a raster, and then change resolution and colors...being
that my shell scripting has been limited to this point in time...it took
me a while.  However, it runs and does exactly what I want.  As long as
there are no complex calculations to make, shell might be the way to
go...I can give you an example of this script if you would like...
