[GRASSLIST:4616] Mac OS X 10.1.5 run problem

Hello,

I hope that I am not wasting people's time with a trivial problem, but
I have built and installed Grass 5.0.0 on my Mac (OS X 10.1.5) and
installed XDarwin (see below for full list of libraries). But when I
issue the command 'grass5' I get the following message

% grass5
% /usr/local/grass5/etc/Init.sh: no such file or directory:
/usr/local/grass5/etc/lock [50]
mpodell is currently running GRASS. Concurrent use not allowed.
%

despite the fact that it says mpodell is currently running GRASS, a
view of current processes shows no GRASS process running.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the problem?

p.s. I followed the recipe for building found on
ftp://grass.baylor.edu/pub/grass/grass5/source/REQUIREMENTS.html
Specifically, before building GRASS, I built and installed:
tk and tcl 8.4.0
 the tcltk_macosX_lib.tar tcltkbin_macosX.tar additions from the GRASS
Mac install page
mesa 4.0.3 gave me problems:
	make[2]: *** [libGL.la] Error 1
	make[1]: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
	make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
fftw
libpng 1.2.4
libjpeg
GD v1.8.4 ( I could not get v2.0.1 to make. It did not like the
"-shared" flag)
tiff-v3.5.7
postgres 7.2
NOT unixODBC (could not get to make: same install recursive error as
with mesa)
GDAL
