[GRASSLIST:4422] Split and Merge Clustering

Hii all grass users,
I'm trying to perform a cloud fitering on AVHRR
imagery based on a paper from J. J. Simpson published
on Remote Sens. Envi. 55. 
In the paper he mentions a split and merge clustering
algorithm. Is that what i.cluster does or will I have
to make a new grass module?
