[GRASSLIST:4538] r.in.gdal on OS-X

I'm interested in importing some native DEMs to GRASS-5.

>From what I can gather r.in.gdal is the module for the job, but is
dependent on the GDAL library being installed in the system.  My problem is
I'm unable to find the MacOS-X GDAL library.  According to
www.remotesensing.org/gdal_building.html "GDAL has been successfully built
on Linux, Solaris, BSD, and MacOS-X.".  But for the life of me I can't find
the GDAL OS-X libraries anywhere.  Will I have to build these from source
code?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
