[GRASSLIST:5965] buffer vector

I have points, lines and aereas as vector files in my grass location.
now i want to make a buffer around them in grass5.

searching with google ifound v.buffer but i dont want touse 
postgres/postgis.

is there any other solution ican use?
(i think for site data you can use v.circle.)
