[GRASSLIST:5996] raster resolution

I have a question about creating contour lines from a raster file. I 
want to smooth the lines so they are not jagged - basically I have 
contour boxes. I am wondering how to run the program so that it 
interpolates the values instead of just putting the line along the grid 
lines.
Any ideas?
