[GRASSLIST:874] Best methods for performing change detection

Could list members familiar with performing imagery derived change 
detection share some of their methodologies (specifically) and 
experiences (generally) using GRASS?  Regarding methodologies, I do not 
seek step-by-step instructions as much as general overview (i.e., 
functions used and result expectations.  Does 5.x provide inherent 
change detection functionality?
