[GRASSLIST:83] general problem with v.digit

I am running Grass 5.0.2 on SuSE 8.2. I tried to use v.digit. But everytime I 
confirm the following form:

Your organization bla
Todays date (mon, yr) 2003
.
.
map´s scale 1:10000
.
North edge of area 4928000

my console does not work any longer and I hear a contant beeping. Is there 
anybody who has got an advice what I should do?
