[GRASSLIST:1229] Newbie question

Hi all,
as I'm new in GRASS world, I've got perhaps a stupid question, so apologize.
Is it possible to develop an application, say in C++ for example, that can use 
GRASS functionalities (API ?) ?
I read a little about that but if someone can give me clear explanation and 
example, I would appriciate.
